"Empty Nesters" (Die Ältern)

Get ready to laugh!

This warm-hearted family comedy (2026), directed by Sönke Wortmann and based on the bestselling novel by Jan Weiler, follows Konrad and Christine as they find themselves confronting that strange and transitional phase of family life when the children finally leave home. What should be a moment of newfound freedom quickly turns into a messy and emotional readjustment, as old tensions resurface, family roles begin to shift and the reality of the empty nest proves far more chaotic than expected.

Funny, relatable and full of heart, this film captures the joys and absurdity, tenderness and occasional turbulence of learning how to be a family in a completely new way.
