We are back for a third year!
Canberra German Week is back!
Back in Canberra for a third time this October, we will be hosting another series of events showcasing the rich spectrum of collaborations between Australia and the German-speaking regions of Europe. We continue our amazing Oktoberfest celebrations with Harmonie German Club again this year and are delighted to present to you key highlight events across education, business, the arts, culture and most of all inspirating the next generation at our family day. We will bring you established events such as the Science and Innovation Day with the latest updates on joint research outcomes as well as the Business Day - focusing this year on artificial intelligence and technological advancement!
Our launch event will be a chance to have a dialogue on Horizon Europe: where to next at the Australian Institute of International Affairs. We will also celebrate the art of cinema at Palace Electric with thanks to our national cultural partner Goethe Institute Australia. The grand finale of our festival will be the annual crowd-pleaser Oktoberfest Canberra back at the Harmonie German Club showcasing the best of German beer and food culture! See you at Canberra German Week 2026 where all ACT community members, young and old, are invited to join us for games, fun, music, food and much more!

How it all began...
Canberra German Week is a true team effort between Das Zentrum Canberra and the German, Austrian and Swisse Embassies as well as multiple other stakeholders like the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), Harmonie German Club, Spielwelt, ACT German Language School, Goethe Institute Australien, and many other supporting cultural parners.
From a local idea to national impact…
In August 2016, Prof Michael Rosemann in Brisbane proposed the idea to create a German Week covering significant topics such as innovation, business, history and culture. Within just eight weeks, a vague idea became reality and has now spread to a total of 6 cities across Australia. Canberra German Week was born in 2024 and with it a new-age cultural festival in the heart of Australia's capital!
In 2022, Adelaide German Week as well as Australia Week in Munich have been established. In 2024, Melbourne and Canberra are also got creative joining the national German Week forces and in 2026, Perth and Darwin are finally joining the family of German Weeks in Australia!
